Each retreat includes healthy, vegetarian (or other preferred diet), and delicious food. Our garden is packed with avocados almost year-round, lemon and lime trees, and we source all we can locally.

Kristin is passionate about creating delicious nutritious food. She has been a vegetarian since childhood and became a vegan as a teenager. These were lifestyle choices made from a deep sense of connection with animals and a desire to live more gently on the Earth.

As a young woman, she experienced a health crisis that put her on the path of nutritional healing. She became an apprentice on an organic farm where she learned to grow and prepare food and has been living a "garden to table" lifestyle ever since.

She came to South Africa from Canada in 1995 and she, her husband and their 2  free-range children have a small organic farm where they grow a variety of fruits, nuts, and vegetables. She offers plant-based cooking workshops and catering to individuals and yoga retreats. When she is not in the garden or the kitchen she loves to practice yoga, Reiki and 5 Rhythms.

Our KwaZulu-Natal 10-day Tour

Pumula Retreat also offers a 10 day tour of the beautiful KwaZulu-Natal Province. Known as the Zulu Kingdom Province, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is a spectacular multi-cultural destination flanked by the warm Indian Ocean on one side and the soaring Drakensberg peaks on the other. Starting with an airport pick-up in Durban, our yoga and adventure tour explores KZN’s most stunning natural and cultural areas, including the Zulu Falls, Nambiti Game Reserve, Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve, majestic Drakensberg peaks, and the finest beaches on the South Coast. Guests experience these peaceful places through yoga (18 classes), meditations, wildlife safaris, and guided walks through some of South Africa’s most remarkable wilderness areas. Healthy meals and comfortable beds await guests at each location, ensuring ultimate comfort and relaxation. Our tour also includes optional adrenaline-seeking adventures, where guests can zipline, scuba dive, ride horses, surf, fish, and soar on the largest Gorge Swing in the world.
