Astanga Yoga and Acromobility Retreat with Jen Chapman

5th-7th July 2024

ASTANGA YOGA and ACROMOBILITY:

ASTANGA YOGA:
Astanga yoga is a moving meditation, synchronising breath, with a progressive series of postures. In this retreat you will learn to link postures in a dance of breath and movement.

Whether you are new to Astanga, or looking to expand your practice and bring a new dimension into your work, we will journey together, to move deeper into this intelligent practice of yoga.

During the workshop section, we will explore breath, movement and awareness.

Breath: is the essence and heart of this discipline, we move mindfully to the flow of our breath.

Movement: in Astanga yoga we practice, in the correct sequential order, each posture unlocks the body for the next posture, all the time threaded by the breath. We will also practice drills, to learn to float.

Awareness: it is not just about progressing in your practice, it's also about learning to be in your practice at that moment.

When we combine all of the above with activation of bandhas, we will produce intense internal heat and sweat, to detoxify muscles and organs. Astanga when practiced mindfully with discipline, builds strength, improves flexibility and brings calmness of mind.

We will then put this knowledge to practice in a guided class.

In this section of the retreat, you will find the joy in working hard and discover your body’s way of
practicing.

ACROMOBILITY:

Acromobility is a movement, combining, yoga, corework, body strength, mobility and balance.

In this section of the retreat, you will mobilise your body, work your core intensely, learn skills to build strength, and partner up in some acro. And practice balance, all at your own level in your own body's way.

Here we will turn up the music and have loads of fun.

You will sweat, laugh, and again find joy in moving your body.

At first we will workshop skills, then put it all together.

It does not matter where you are in strength or flexibility, my goal for you is to feel that you can develop deeper into a beautiful way, moving through life.

Jennifer Chapman, is the founder of The Astanga Studio, in Kloof.

“Around the age of 12yrs old, I was encouraged, by my ballet teacher, to take yoga, and from an early age my body innately connected to that feeling of clarity after practising. I also think when we are so young, our minds aren’t as full of garbage, and our bodies surrender to pure wisdom. I was drawn to that sense of bliss after practice, the yoga high, with a sense of, if my heart is willing I can do anything, as long as it doesn’t harm myself, or others.

Dance is my heart song and yoga became intertwined in the dance of my heart, it brought such peace to my soul. From a young age I began reading up on Eastern Philosophy on a Guru’s way of life, eating etc. I was already a vegetarian. It was my dream to travel to India
one day and meet a Guru and I did just that.

We have perhaps all suffered trauma in our lives somewhere along the way, due to trauma I became attracted to martial arts as well, and have practiced a variety of forms from karate, kick boxing, kung fu, krav maga and budokon.  In my exploration of these various martial arts, we offer a mobility class, also incorporating self defence, based on krav maga principles.

I also offer massage therapy, for me this goes hand in hand for physical and mental well being.”
